Tundra Tapir

Here, after quite some time, we have a first entry of the Nea contest. It is the Tundra Tapir, a animal suggested by a medium 
sized herbivore. The concept was accepted by the international jury and the mountain tapir was approved to be the base for this new species,
at this point it is still a subspecies. The genetic material was just slightly edited, a little longer fur and higher oxygen capacity. The rest was done with a good chunk of natural selection. 
Originally the species was supposed to only inhabit the northern tundra and steppe, but after some time a small population was also set free in the southern most parts of Nea.
The Tundra Tapir is a sturdy animal, cold fast winds, some snow and only a little bit of vegetation is normal of these animals which can be found in small groups up to 5 individuals. In their diet they rely mostly on short grass, lichens and some berries. In contrast to all terrestrial tapirs the juveniles of this species don't posses such a striking contrasted coloration. The open plains are better for dull colors, and while the pattern is still very similar the 
contrast is lower, especially in the back and ass.
