Description

Finally a large mammal for Nea, and it's basically a goat.

Takins* are dwellers of the Himalaya, living high up there helped them to be prepared for the thin air on Nea. In their new home they adaptd for a different habitat (the air high on the mountains here is much thinner than on Earth...) and so the steppe and grasslands. Their fur became shorter, the legs longer, the ears larger and the horns surprisingly longer. In herds up to 200 animals they migrate through the grasslands, often they feed in places where some rocks are around on which the juveniles play and one or two adults have a good few over the land.
Neanean Takins are descendants of some Sichuan Takin from Tibet, a second subspecies, the southern steppe Takin lives in the same habitat in the southern hemisphere lives in smaller herds and has often darker fur and a little more upward curved horns, some locals call them Tarkin because they often are so stubborn.

Neaneans learned to domesticate takins and use their wool, meat and horns. Takin herders often trade with the people of the desert on their yearly migrations when they come near the edge of the sand seas.

*Note: on Earth Takin is singular and plural, on Nea Takins is plural.

Did Franz Nopcsa ever travel to Tibet? I knew so that he travelled in the Balkan region (you depicted Franz Nopcsa next to the takin).
