Coastal woolpalm

Ianaherba arbori and their relatives form the family of Ianaherbaridae, which are related to grasses like the Pyrungata Prairiegrass. They are the biggest plants of the arid and semiarid zones and grow mostly in the coastal regions. The name-giving wool at the base of the leafs, catch the dew and fog which comes from the sea.
Because of the rare water and the few nutrients they grow very slowly, no wonder that some of the bigger specimens are older than 100 years.
