Spinosaurus by Hyrotrioskjan Spinosaurus by Hyrotrioskjan
Finally I'm back, from Denmark, and I carry a bunch of ideas and drawings with me.
During the last time many people have ask "what about the Spinosaurus?", very good question. What happend to this giant heron? There was a concept, a sketch I publush here.
The answer is typical for my way to work.
Pyrungata overrun me. The motivation for the Spinosaurus decrease and the delusion for my newest project began.
But here he is, a bit different to the original concept, but not less gigantic and with the new thick-sail/muscular hump.
Now you will see them all together on the new Spinosauridae size chart.

just curious, but are you going to do another spinosaurus drawing based on the new 2015 reconstruction as well?

It's a optical illusion, I add as much detail as necessary to let your brain do the rest =)

Have you heard of the new material on Spinosaurus? It may have looked a lot weirder than this.

Entweder war das Sarkasmus oder so ein übertriebener Spino-Fanboy, der sich nicht von Jurassic Park III losreißen kann...

The ridge makes Spinosaurus look so huge that even the largest Carcharodontosaurus would think twice before messing with him. Lol

Coolest depiction of Spinosaurus I have ever seem in Deviant Art!!! Really accurate that you made a Spinosaurus with a ridge/hump rather than a sail :)

This bloak must be a sire looking for a damn in estrous.

IMO, a lion's mane is always seein in male theropods - females are maneless.

It looks awesome, but I still think that it was probably more mottled in coloration, to better blend in with the foliage or riverside vegetation or whatever. But it is still very impressive!

AFAIK Spinosaurus spines are very different from those of sailed animals ^^ They looked more like the ones of a bison or chameleon.

To be honest they don't look like anything else, so we have no idea what the hell was on its back.

the hump is a reasonable guess but the spines in the spinosaurus would be too weak to hold all that fat and muscle. it was more likely a thick display fin which is not uncommon in dinos. most of the weight would be in the legs and torso so the legs would be longer an slighty more muscular. still a great picture though.

Actually, they were perfect for it and resemble more the spines of a Bison rather than the spines of a Dimetrodon, so a muscular hump is the far most plausible hypothesis.

This theme is still controversial and that's the reason why I don't show here the thicknes of the hump/sail =)

Kannst du ja mal fertig zeichnen und digital zusammenfügen, das würde klasse zeigen wie wahnsinnig riesig Spinosaurus war, und der Größe des Kopfes nach entspricht das noch nicht mal den größten Funden.

If Spino had a hump, even with slightly bigger legs, it would probably still be too heavy to stand up.

very cool drawing, amazing actually, but i really dont like that his 'fin' looks like an enormously fat back. It would be better if the fin were a different color (or just a little darker) and the bones were visible. Otherwise amazing detail, good work :)

It was especially my intention to made no difference of body and sail. I see no reason why it should have another color or pattern. I often criticise that the sail of Spinosaurus looks like seperately placed on the back. I tried to make it visible just because of the shadows.

true, true. I myself really doubt they where a different color, so thats totally good. Maybe if it were just a little bony, to look more like a fin instead of an enormous back. Otherwise still amazing art. Just my opinion. Your dinos rock.

A fin is implausible, though, so I think Hyrotrioskjan made a good call reconstructing Spinosaurus with a hump instead.
