Slugboat

The Hubur river system is home to a tribe like society of fishermen and farmers.
They look "primitive" from the outside, but like many other Neaneans they hide their technology.
The slugboat was invented by a musician and violinmaker from Earth who, after some personal tragedies, left her home planet to start anew.
But during that time there was not much use for a craftswoman of her profession so she begun to build boats. 
Nobody knows when she begun to add strings to her creations and produced the first real slugboat but years later it's a vital part of the Hubur culture and is used by many fishermen.

The boats are made of very light wood but beside shown here this way, you normally can't handle them so easily like this. In most cases they lean against a wall or stand on a special rack. 
Some also play this instrument/boat by laying it on the ground, but the acoustic is better this way.

Because they are so light they can swim even on very shallow streams (which can be useful on such a dry planet). The strings can be very easily removed and stowed inside the boat.

Among the animals they hunt are giant pupfishes and mangrove Mulakangos.
