Roc

All over the world we found legends of giant bird-like creatures, the most are fantasy or inspired by dragons (like the griffon or the thunderbird)
But two of them are/were totaly real. Firstly the heron Benu and secondly the Roc.
Madagscar is the only landmass, beside antarctica, where dragons never arrived.
Because here the birds are the apex predators of the sky.

And newer fossils tell us that there were even bigger (5m wingspan) individuals before the extinction of the Aepyornis.
