I imagine this island as not incredibly hostile, and not a dinotopia, but just quiet and un-threateningly inhabited by small carnivores which might nip you if you get too close, and the herbivores just not bothered to care about your presence, just a place you could relax and read a book quietly as the dragonflys skim throug the reeds, a nice place, you know?
