Description

I had not much time during the last days but here it is: one of these very rare reconstructions of Libycosuchus (to my knowledge there is only one another)
This small notosuchid is one of a few species from Bahariya which we know not only from drawings of Stromer, it's skull is one of a few specimens which survived WWII
Here the skull: www.paleofile.com/imges/Crocod…
Like other notosuchids Libycosuchus seems to be adapted for land, the skull is very robust, the teeth not very large, it was suggested that it was the hyena of Bahariya, a scavenger with strong jaws.
But everyone who know hyenas is aware of the fact that these carnivores aren't just scavengers. Beside feeding on the stuff Spinosaurus and Charcharodontosaurus left behind it could have crushed the shells of mollusks or feed on the scavenging crabs which were found under the bones of Paralititan.
I could also imagine small packs of these animals wandering through the mangrove forests of old Egypt plundering nests and hunting small dinosaurs (after all, there is a lack of small theropods in the Bahariya formation)
