Falsusurculus by Hyrotrioskjan Falsusurculus by Hyrotrioskjan
Falsusurculus is a exception under cuspipods, this animal and its relatives are the only taxon which have legs at the exouterus. They are very well climbers and live on the highest branches. Another difference to the rest of the Cuspipoda is their lack of color vision. They are mostly nocturnal and in search for fresh buds they climb in (mostly) total darkness.

Its a nice design, but why is there only one segment to it's body-mass? I'd think they would be a bit to stiff to climb "trees", other then straight up and down.

That's how they are designed by nature, like tetrapods have only four limbs, mammels only seven neck vertebrates and insects which have always head, thorax and abdomen.

p.s. they can also walk sideways...

Sorry, I have no time for a longer answer: they can also walk sideways =)

I feel like animals with such rigid bodies and legs would have trouble navigating certain things. For instance moving from a vertical trunk to a horizontal branch. In that situation the back legs would be on the trunk and the front legs on the branch while the middle of the organism would be suspended in the air. This one in the picture wouldn't have this problem as much since it had two body segments with legs.

Another example would be climbing up the side of a tree stump and onto the stump's top. An organism with a typical cuspipod's body plan would have to keep climbing upwards with the front half of its body vertically in the air with the lower half clinging to the stump. Then it would forcibly have to tip its self over onto the logs top.

This would be so much easier to show with a picture XD

Any way, I love the design of these, but that's just something I thought I'd bring up.
