Bibonatrix schwartzi

Bibonatrix- what a strange name for such a nice creature, slender and with elegant movements, these sea serpents are certainly among the most beautiful animals of the Indian ocean.
But not also their name is unusual, it's feeding method is it as well. Bibonatrix is the only known suction feeder within the Natrixosaurs. Its jaws, cervical ribs and special hyoid apparatus are build to produce a underpressure which sucks in small prey when it open its mouth rapidly, so it don't surprise that crabs, lobsters, clams, flatfishes and many other species which live on the seabed and within the soil are on its menu card. The animal normally stands motionless over the ground, the head lowered, only correcting the position from time to time with its fins until a sudden big snap vanish the next kill. Like Cavinatrix, this species have electro-receptors in the tip of it's snoud, with those it can detects burried prey. But Bibonatrix is also a predator of the open water which is able to generate surprising speed over short times.
Overall they prefer shallow, warm water. They can be found near coral reefs and during the birth-season in mangroves where the females bring up to 4 small sea serpernts into the world. Natural enemys are crocodiles (especially the saltwater crocodile), sharks and sometimes killer wahles but normally they are ignored by other predators.
The biggest threat for this Bibonatrix is today the intense polution of the Indian ocean, many states at its shores have low or no legal regulation for the disposal of waste into the ocean.
