Description

A bit All Yesterday stuff here.
This is my remake of Retodus tuberculatus, also known as Neoceratodus or Ceratodus (depending on which author you follow). My new version of this giant lungfish from the Bahariya formation shows it with algae on it's scales and lampreys on it's hide. These basal vertebrates have a long history but fossils are rare (so many ghost lines...). Fossils from the cretaceous of China are known but nothing from Africa during this time. But that isn't a surprise when you think about the few parts of a lamprey which could become a fossil. Modern lampreys are known from the temperate zone but fossil species are also present in warmer climates so it's possible that giant freshwater fishes like R. tuberculatus suffered from these guys like some fishes still do it today.

It would be fun to watch Jeremy Wade drag in one of these! =)
